Hurray! We’re free! At least a little bit. And we used that little bit to invite friends over for a little wine decanting. We’d been talking about it for weeks, when it’s time, when we can… finally we did!
We decided to do a little wine, cheese and chocolate event for four. Susie had picked up a very interesting combo pack from a certain large warehouse grocery store and a nice bottle of Stefano di Blasi Toscana 2018. Ron pulled from his cellar - the guest room closet - and presented a Terro Melange 2017, from David Coffaro, one of his favorites.
You can see our beautiful presentation in the photos. The cheeses were a lovely variety which included an earthly truffle, sharp cheddar, red wine goat, an herb coated slightly soft cheese and one other softer creamy cheese.
Decanting nicely in our Caravino Travel Wine Decanters - Stefano in our Leaf design and David in our Deco design - we set about arranging ourselves comfortably around the table on our newly finished deck.
The rain was holding off and the air was balmy, just right for a little decanting get-together. The tasting was delicious, savory, creamy, earthy. Just the kind of combos you always hope for.
It’s always fascinating how different combinations enhance each other - or not - and how everyone’s palates are different. I discovered that the sharper cheddar paired nicely with the Toscana, and with the herby, and creamier cheeses I preferred the Coffaro.
You might be wondering how to choose which wine would go best with what dish. Usually, the label will offer suggestions. That’s where we start. You can always search online for tips. But, don’t be afraid to experiment. That’s all part of the fun! And if it’s an epic fail, well, just try again next weekend!
Oh yes! We never did get to the chocolate. Maybe that’ll be the focus of our next tasting event.
Enjoy your freedom! Remember your friends! Stay well!
