Maybe you own a vineyard, or make your own wine. Maybe you know someone in the wine business. Or maybe you’re merely lucky enough to know someone who knows someone in the wine business. And that someone is your someone’s relative who even grows their own grapes.
Well! I have one of those someones! And one day he gave me a bottle of the richest, buttery-est, creamyist, yummyist Cabernet Sauvignon ever put in a bottle.
These lush grapes for this Cab Sav were sourced through Ken Wright Cellars and Tyrus Evans Winery, in Carlton, Oregon, in the Willamette Valley.
My friend made this beautiful wine from these lush grapes in a 50 gallon plastic garbage can in his garage. He also made a matching PVC-pipe-handled plastic paddle to punch down these beautiful blood red grapes in that plastic garbage can. He even let me help him once.
I didn’t realize such liquid magic could be made with such simple, everyday implements. After decanting, we paired it with a meaty, rich beef roast. I tasted nothing of his make-shift equipment and thought only of healthy, grazing cattle basking in the sun amidst green grapevine covered hills. Savory, rich, earthy. Satiating body, mind and soul.
